Why get a hotstone massage

Posted on 2 October, 2019 at 1:20 Comments comments (0)

Hot stone massage is a natural therapy in which warmed stones are positioned on parts of the client’s body of to maximize the therapeutic benefit. The stones used are typically river rocks or other very smooth-surfaced stones made of basalt. These stones are heated in sanitizing water before use.

The high iron content in basalt helps the stones retain heat during the massage. Hot stone massages are beneficial on both physical and psychological levels. [1]

Helps relieve muscle tension and pain

Muscles that are tight and tense are much harder to penetrate during a massage. By placing these stones along the tense spots in your body, the muscles are loosened and relaxed, thereby allowing your massage therapist to really heal, lengthen, and soothe those areas, without greatly increasing the pressure of the massage. Essentially, the warmed stones allow your massage therapist to do his or her job more readily and effectively while still maintaining your greatest comfort. [2]

Improved Circulation

Typically, a massage therapist allows the heated stones to rest on trigger points in your body before beginning the actual massage. As the heat from the stones penetrates into your deeper body tissues, your blood vessels open, resulting in improved circulation. Poor circulation can lead to fatigue, which tenses the muscles, and a buildup of fluid and lactic acid in the muscles. Increased circulation delivers more oxygen to the muscles, which can help ease aches and pains.

Mental Benefits

Massage therapy can result in mental benefits as well as physical ones in many people. You may find that the relaxation afforded to you through a hot stone massage helps ease some of your mental stress and tension. A hot stone massage may also help you combat some of the symptoms of anxiety disorders and depression. While massage therapy is not a substitute for traditional medical or psychiatric care, it can be an integral part of your treatment plan.

Getting a massage can improve your mental health

July 18, 2018

An abundance of research suggests that receiving a massage promotes our psychological health; the benefits are reported to extend across areas of mental health (including cognitive, emotional and social/behavioural). More specifically, massage has been found effective in alleviating the symptoms of various psychological disorders, including autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders, chronic fatigue, and depression. Research suggests it is beneficial across the lifespan, with benefits having been found in unborn babies, newborns/babies/infants, children, adolescents/young adults, adults, and the elderly.

How do researchers come to such a conclusion?

Studies have found that those who receive massage therapy are found to experience greater improvement in their psychological health, when compared to individuals with similar mental health problems who receive either no treatment or undergo holistic treatments that are not massage-based.

To what extent does receiving massage help one’s psychological health?

It has been found that psychological issues are reduced by between 60% and 77% more for the average person receiving a massage, compared to those with similar psychological symptoms who do not receive massage.

How much massage is required for benefits to be obtained?

A single massage can have a positive influence on psychological health – research findings show it can improve state anxiety, negative mood and experience of physical pain. Whereas, multiple massages can positively affect more enduring variables, including trait anxiety, depression and delayed assessment of pain.

Conclusion

Massage therapy may be considered a viable option for individuals who wish to enhance their psychological wellbeing. It may be a useful adjunct to the more traditional treatment methods of psychotherapy and prescription medications. The decision of whether you may benefit from such should be considered with it in mind that some clients (e.g. victims of trauma, from particular cultures) might find it stressful to receive a massage.

The importance of massage

I am a Remedial and soft tissue sports therapist ,reiki master ,access bars practitioner ,I love being a massage therapist and I love the satisfaction of making people painfree. When they are painfree people are happy and they can do the things they want in life.Anxiety and depression are kept in control.

When people can look after themselves they feel more in control of there health. Not having to "pop pills"feels great.

The benefits of massage:

One of the immediate benefits of massage is a feeling of deep relaxation and calm. This occurs because massage prompts the release of endorphins – the brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) that produce feelings of wellbeing.

Levels of stress hormones, such as adrenalin, cortisol and norepinephrine, are also reduced. Studies indicate that high levels of stress hormones impair the immune system.

Some of the physical benefits of massage and myotherapy include:

reduced muscle tension

improved circulation

stimulation of the lymphatic system

reduction of stress hormones

relaxation

increased joint mobility and flexibility

improved skin tone

improved recovery of soft tissue injuries

heightened mental alertness

reduced anxiety and depression.
